Artist Statement

The visual splendor of our natural landscape and the unique, complex and ever changing relationships linking us together are the two driving forces behind my artwork. Despite my personal connection to these two “driving forces,” both, due to the differences found amongst them, allow me to experiment with and challenge my processes and techniques. This, something I can appreciate as an artist, as it allows me to continue to battle between my desire to control all of what I create and my desire to give up all control and see what I can create.

More often than not, each piece I produce is some combination of acrylic painting, collage, drawing, and/or stenciling. I am drawn to creating mixed media artwork for the reason that I believe each individual media has properties that are best suited to visually represent the artwork that builds from a thought, feeling, or memory within my head. I also, enjoy the challenge that mixing media creates for me; it forces more planning on my part, and controls the creative process. In the end, it is the battles, processes, challenges, and discoveries made while working to discover the complexity of nature, and human nature, that keep me creating.
